"Faith Alone"

Our first annual Central Queensland Christian Convention has come to a close.

It was a weekend of Bible talks, music, food, and Christian fellowship. More than 200 people registered, and a number of others sat in on one or two sessions. God was good to us all: it was a terrific weekend!

A big thank you to everyone who contributed, particularly those who found a job to do that the organising committee had forgotten.

The weekend took place with very few hiccups, and all who attended left with God's word in their ears and on their hearts. May God continue to grant us understanding into the Scriptures we studied this weekend and willing hearts to live according to it.

The organisers are now breathing a deep breath and looking forward to resting up for a couple of weeks. When they are back on deck, you can expect to see on this website convention photos, audio recordings of all the Bible talks to download, details of future conventions, and more as time permits.

MP3 files now available for download

The seven talks from the Bible on the theme "Faith Alone" are NOW AVAILABLE for immediate download. Click on the microphone to access the series, or use the 'Bible talks' menu above.

What is faith? Is it joined with works? Is 'faith alone' new (since Christ) or has it always been 'faith alone'?

Phil Campbell (Mitchelton Presbyterian) opened up Paul's letter to the Galatians. Anthony Petterson (Morling Bible College) took us to three old testament highlights.

For the sake of convenience, these files were put through a cold wash and may have suffered the effects of shrinkage. If you would like better quality files, rockypc.org.au has a set of the convention talks available (bit rate: 128kbps). Files are much larger, so beware.

All systems are go!

Thunderbirds are go!

The convention is happening: 2-4 May 2009.

As of 17 April, 73 adults and 19 kids have registered, and we know of another dozen or so who have put registrations in the mail. This is a good number for our first convention.

Phil Campbell continues to prepare three talks in Galatians, plus an evangelistic talk (to be delivered on Sunday night). Anthony Petterson has three talks from the Old Testament under way. Unfortunately, Andrew Campbell's broken leg will not permit him to travel north. Danny Ford (from Henty) has kindly taken his place. He will teach and lead the children's program.

If you have not yet registered, there is still time.

Flyers and registrations forms can be downloaded from the website. Mail your form to: PO Box 1862, Rockhampton Q 4700. Alternatively, register by emailing or phoning Michael Campbell on (07) 4939-4542 or 0420 95 86 86.

We look forward to your company, and pray that our time together will strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ - our Lord and Saviour.

Closing date extended

On the flyer we advertised a closing date for the children's program: 17 April. We did this because we were not sure how many would come (if we were to have 50 kids, we wanted some warning). Now that we have some idea of who is coming, we are pleased to announce a change.

Registrations will continue to be received up until Wednesday 29 April.

Registration FormWe need to make arrangements for lunches, otherwise we would be happy for people to register on the weekend. For those travelling long distances, there is still accommodation available at Camp Lammermoor.

You can register by a number of ways. Download the form by clicking on the image on the right and mailing it to: PO Box 1862, Rockhampton Q 4700. Alternatively, email or phone Michael Campbell on (07) 4939-4542 or 0420 95 86 86.

Speakers

Phil Campbell

Phil is married to Louise, and they have four adult kids aged between 18 and 25.

Phil leads the ministry team at Mitchelton Presbyterian Church on Brisbane's northside, as they work to nurture a network of clear, Christ-centred churches in the area.

Phil is passionate about good de-caffe cappuccino, good graphic design, and good acoustic guitars. He is still coming to terms with the fact that April marks his 50th birthday.

Phil will be giving us the New Testament perspective on “Faith Alone”, particularly from Galatians.

Anthony Petterson

Anthony is married to Megan and they have two sets of twins – Luke & Emma (13) and Sophie and Hugh (10).

He teaches Old Testament at Morling College in Sydney. Before that he was pastor of Hornsby Heights Baptist Church in Sydney and then associate pastor at Grosvenor Road Baptist Church in Dublin, Ireland for four years. While overseas he did a PhD on the messianic hope in the book of Zechariah.

Anthony is also active in ministry at Macquarie Baptist Church (next to Macquarie Uni). He enjoys orienteering, fishing, jazz music and watching his kids play sport.

Anthony will be helping us to understand the doctrine of "Faith Alone" as revealed by God in the Old Testament.
